VJ Walker was one of the first clients at Trinity Care Services. He said, before he started in the Wellbriety program, he was panhandling, couch surfing, and constantly drinking. If he was not doing any of these it was because he was in the hospital for alcohol withdrawal or in jail. His family relationships were extremely strained and he felt hopeless.
VJ is now 15 months sober, is in school to work on HVAC equipment, and works part-time doing maintenance at the Trinity Care Services office in Glendale. His relationship with family is also healing.
He says he learned to not expect that the world owed him something. He has changed mentally, physically, and spiritually for the better. He feels lucky and is, "really really really grateful for TCS, the staff, and the chance that they gave me". He can now do the things that he would not have been able to do before. He has better self-awareness, can self-regulate, and no longer gives up on doing the hard work.
His advice to others going through the process of concurring their addictions and feeling overwhelmed, "I learned a lot of patience. Every day is a new day. Don't worry about tomorrow, bro. Just worry about doing today. All the little stuff will build up to be the big stuff (accomplishments).
